Update on Scarlet Fever and invasive Group A Streptococci

Scarlet fever is usually a mild illness, but it is highly infectious. Therefore, look out for symptoms in your child, which include a sore throat, headache, and fever, along with a fine, pinkish or red body rash with a sandpapery feel.

Doctors

Our GPs are required to see our patients with complex health care needs and ongoing un-resolving problems.  They work closely with all the other Health Professional teams. Each patient has an allocated named GP, this GP will support in coordinating patients’ care if they have a significant health care requirement. We would encourage you to remain with an individual GP, if possible, for continuity of care. Our GPs also carry out postnatal checks, baby checks, medicals, minor operations, joint injections, contraceptive coils and implants. We are also a Training Practice and regularly have fully qualified doctors who are training to be General Practitioners.

I went to Medical School in Leeds and after a brief spell abroad settled in the South West.  My initial GP training was in Taunton and North Somerset and I have been at Castle Place since 2011.  Apart from a busy family life, I enjoy outdoor pursuits including running and sailing.

I trained to be a GP in Sheffield and have been living and working in mid Devon for the last 12 years.  I love gardening, playing netball, spending time in the sea and walking with my family.

Dr James Squire

Principal General Practitioner

Devon has always been my home, however I trained in London and I have been a Doctor since 2002 and a GP since 2009.  Weekends are busy taking my sons to football, walking our labradoodle, keeping fit and taking photographs in the countryside.

Our associate doctors are employed to work part-time and offer a variety of surgery times throughout the week. They offer a full range of general practice care to patients registered with the Practice.
